What Is A Chest?

Chests are designed in a rectangular shape and are provided with a heavy flip lid on the top. They are commonly used to store clothes, tools, utensils books etc. they are very durable, sturdy and long-lasting.

Unlike some other storage methods, chests keep your valuables free from bugs and fungus growth. The only disadvantage is they are a little bit huge, hence resulting in occupying large spaces and they are quite heavy also which means it is difficult to shift them often. With a little care and maintenance, you can proudly display them for years to come.

There are various types, sizes, models of chests, which could suit everyone’s needs. They are made of woods and as well as metals, and come in various finishes. Here we have a brief description about the various types/models of medieval chests.

Basically there are six types of medieval chests they are, box, standard, Viking chest, six-board chest, hutch, and panel chest. The first two chests are designed with out legs; the other four are designed with legs.

Box: They come with a lid, usually large and sturdy. These chests have very simple designs and only consist of six flat wooden pieces, one on each side including the lid. All these wooden boards are assembled by nails.

Standard: Theses chests are the most common, and universal design of chests. They are similarly made to boxes, but, the only difference is, each surface is made with a curve hence helping water to drain off while carried on traveling.

Viking Chest: They are similar to the standard and box types, but only extended with legs on each corner which helps to raise the chest off the floor.

Six-board Chests: This is the most common and very durable chest design shows a number of decorative techniques.
